Grocery Shopping & Meal Preparation

We can help manage grocery shopping and assist with preparing nutritious meals from scratch which can be eaten fresh or made in bulk and frozen.

Mobility Services

Help seniors stay active safely by accompanying them on walks and encourage other opportunities to get moving.

Conversation & Company

A friendly companion can share a conversation, provide friendship and help seniors stay socially connected to family, friends and community. We can visit on set days and also help with meal prep and house cleaning, play board games, read a book, and many other activities.

House Cleaning

Our housekeepers can clean your home on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

  • Cleaning bathroom and kitchen
  • Vacuuming carpets
  • Washing floors
  • Washing dishes
  • Unloading or loading dishwasher
  • Dusting
  • Bathroom tub, sink, toilet, floors and baseboards
  • Changing linen or making the bed(s)
  • Taking out the garbage
  • Light meal preparation (as staff availability allows) need to be arranged in advance

The following must be arranged in advance of your appointment, as it takes extra time and there may be extra costs:

  • Help with meal prep and laundry and baseboards
  • Washing windows, walls, light fixtures, inside cupboards, and closets
  • Oven, fridge, stove
  • Carpet shampooing
  • Packing and downsizing

Yard Care & Handyman Services

Programs are for those over age 55 who are on fixed and low incomes, or have mobility issues, cognitive impairments, or are recovering from a hospital stay.

Volunteers may be matched with an older adult to provide yard work; landscaping help and lawn clean up for seniors. The program helps with general yard maintenance, such as raking, weeding, mowing and trimming trees and bushes.

Services may include:

  • Mow lawns
  • Remove broken tree branches and debris from lawn areas
  • Blow or sweep grass clippings from curbs, walks, driveways, and patios
  • Rake leaves and clear walkways for senior safety
  • Prune shrubs, bushes, and small trees to clear views from windows and to clear walkways for safety and security reasons
  • Assist with gardening, flowers, and weeding
  • We bag the grass clipping and put the bag in your trash bin (NB: you provide your own bags or purchase them from us at $0.50 each). We will place in green bin if available.
  • Rototilling
  • Watering
  • Light landscaping (by contract company)
  • Fill Bird feeders and clean up around them (client supplies feed)
  • Spring and fall yard cleanup
  • Hauling refuse to dump
  • Odd jobs are available such as cleaning/sweeping garage, cleaning BBQ, helping to set up patio furniture, and more
  • Putting up or taking down Christmas lights
  • Picking up garbage
  • Cleaning pet waste (by contract company)
  • Putting away items in your yard for winter
  • Remove snow from your vehicle
  • Scrape ice off vehicle windshield
  • Other

Snow shoveling, gutter cleaning, and power washing and window washing, are also available.

Services can be booked weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or one time.

Other Services

A companion for Transportation Rides to appointments, social outings, groceries, errands, deliveries, handyman services, yard care, gardening, Hospital Bed Side Sitting, Care Home Visits.

Volunteers

 

Screening is mandatory with Seniors Centre Without Walls Moose Jaw Inc. (“SCWW”) as you will be working with a vulnerable sector.

This application must be accompanied with:

  • References.
    • Applicants must have three separate character references – Not family.
    • Each reference must know the applicant for a minimum of 5 years.
    • No references can be related to the applicant.
    • Return all references forms in PDF file format or in printed mail format to Canada Post.
  • Criminal Record Check.
    • A clear within six months of todays date, Vulnerable Sector Record check is needed
      from the RCMP or the City Police depending upon where you live.
    • You will need to present them with a letter from us to receive a vulnerable check. Any fees will be reimbursed to you when you give us your receipt.
