Senior Centre Without Walls is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the well-being, independence, and dignity of older adults across Saskatchewan. Our mandate is to deliver innovative, community-based programs and services that enable seniors to remain safely in their own homes, reduce social isolation, and foster meaningful engagement across generations.

We fulfill this mandate through our core pillars:

We operate a province-wide telephone program that connects seniors from the comfort of their own homes. This program reduces loneliness and social isolation while promoting mental stimulation, lifelong learning, and social connection. Sessions include guest speakers, educational topics, wellness conversations, and brain-stimulating activities designed to foster a strong sense of belonging and community.

We offer a range of practical outreach services that enable older adults to live independently and safely in their homes for as long as possible. These include:

• Friendly Companionship Visits
• House Cleaning and Light Home Care
• Transportation and Errand Support
• Advocacy and System Navigation Assistance
• Meal Preparation Support
• Personal Care Assistance

Personal care duties may include:

• Assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
• Helping with mobility, transferring, and safe movement
• Monitoring general well-being and reporting concerns
• Supporting morning and bedtime routines

We actively support newcomers to Canada who are pursuing careers in LPN and Social Work especially in the areas of senior care. Our programs offer:

• Community Engagement with Seniors
• Conversational English Practice and Language Development
• Support with Foreign Credential Recognition
• Cultural Exchange and Integration of Saskatchewan Personal and workplace culture
• Intergenerational connections between senior citizens and skilled workers for language development and cultural learning

We connect senior citizens with newcomers to foster mutual learning and connection. Seniors help newcomers understand both workplace and personal aspects of Saskatchewan culture, while newcomers practice their language skills in an encouraging, real-world setting. This intergenerational exchange promotes understanding, inclusion, and belonging for all.

Outdoor nature-based programs provide therapeutic and educational benefits through structured, guided interaction with horses. For seniors, working with horses helps reduce anxiety, combat loneliness, improve mobility, and connect seniors with the community to reduce feelings of loneliness.

For newcomers the equine component is a hands-on, culturally immersive tool that directly supports professional readiness, language development, non-verbal communication skills, and cultural adaptation. Horses require participants to use calm, clear, and consistent communication—mirroring the same interpersonal qualities expected in Canadian healthcare and social work settings. Through these sessions, internationally educated LPNs and social workers gain confidence in English communication, practice empathy and observation skills, and receive feedback in real-time through the horse’s natural responses.

The program also introduces them to core Canadian workplace expectations such as boundaries, self-regulation, teamwork, and emotional—awareness elements often missing in traditional academic bridging programs. By including seniors in these sessions, we create rich intergenerational learning environments where both groups benefit: seniors feel valued and connected, while immigrant professionals gain real-life exposure to the needs of Canada’s aging population.

This innovative approach aligns with FCRP objectives by removing cultural and linguistic barriers to licensure, offering relevant Canadian experience, and accelerating integration into the workforce through unique, community-based learning.
